A 2022 graduate from the Faculty of Arts and Social Development, Shamad earned his Bachelor of Arts in French (Mention Bien) through UniSey in collaboration with the University of La Réunion. His outstanding performance was recognised with both the Chancellor’s Award and the Dean’s Award, a testament to his dedication and commitment to excellence.

During his time at UniSey, Shamad was deeply engaged in student leadership and national representation. He served as Vice-President of the UniSey Student Union (2020–2022) and contributed as a Board Member of the Seychelles National Youth Council (2019–2021). His global outlook was further demonstrated when he became the winner of the 21st Chinese Bridge Competition for Seychelles (2022), organised by the Confucius Institute at UniSey.

Professionally, Shamad has gained experience across both the tourism sector and education, teaching at secondary, primary, and post-secondary levels. His academic journey continues internationally, as he currently pursues a Master’s degree in Paris (Master 2, 2026) in Sciences Humaines et Sociales, specialising in Education and Training Sciences with a psychosocial approach. His research interests focus particularly on education, social and family development in Small Island Developing States (SIDS).

Reflecting on his time at UniSey, Shamad shares:

“My education at UniSey has been instrumental in shaping both my professional and personal development. It strengthened my critical thinking, research, and analytical abilities, while enhancing my leadership and project management skills.”

Studying in a multicultural environment has further strengthened his confidence, cultural awareness, and communication skills, equipping him to contribute meaningfully on a global stage.

Shamad also offers thoughtful advice to young people in Seychelles:

“Success is built through perseverance, sacrifice, and active engagement beyond academics. Be proactive, take initiative, seek mentorship, and view challenges as opportunities for growth. The relationships you build, your peers and lecturers, often become your most valuable connections.”

Grounded in his Creole heritage and guided by his faith, Shamad embraces diversity while staying connected to his roots. His appreciation for French culture and global perspectives continues to shape his journey.

He leaves us with a powerful message:

“Be proud of who you are, pursue your aspirations with purpose, and never forget where you come from, this is the foundation of your strength.”
